Tuesday, 19 July 2011: Commitments or Excuses

We can either commit to the decisions we make or we can make excuses. We can commit to living a healthier lifestyle by passing up fast food and making our own lunch. We can commit to getting fitter by finding the time every day to go work out. We can commit to becoming stronger by adding just a little more weight to the bar or by not relying on that band we're so used to using in our pull ups. We can commit to spending more time with our loved ones doing the things we love. Or we can say that there's too many things going on at home that I don't have time to make my own lunch. Or we can say that work is too busy for you to get away for an hour to go work out and get fitter. Or we can say that the weight is too heavy and I won't be able to get a good time in the WOD if I increase the weight any further. Or we can say there are too many (insert excuse) to spend time with the family.

Commitments or excuses. Which one are you?

WOD:
VO2 Max Test
All out effort.

WOD (CFE):
5 Rounds for time
5 Deadlifts, 275#
15 Double Unders

RESULTS
VO2 Max: 47.8
WOD: 2:53

My VO2 Max score went down from a year ago. The protocol for administering the test was different than last year. Last year I ran with very little incline at 10mph. This time I ran only 8mph, but the incline increased 1% every minute and I got up to 7% before I tapped out. I knew I was reaching my breaking point because my running form completely broke down and I could barely maintain 90BPM cadence.

Although my VO2 Max score was slightly less than it was last year, I'm happy that I've trimmed down 4% body fat and gotten stronger. Plus considering I only have one run specific workout a week, I think I scored pretty well. So with that score I decided to "reward" myself with a CFE Strength and Conditioning WOD. Besides I need to start implementing my 2-a-days again and following CFE exclusively for the next year since I'll have the time on my hands. Curious to see the results.
