Today I'm honoring Jerry as my "endurance" WOD for the week.

Sgt Major Jerry Dwayne Patton, 40, died on 15 October 2008 during High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) training while assigned to Army USSOCOM preparing for deployment to Afghanistan. Jerry is survived by his wife Molly and his sons Chad, Cody, Chase and Connor.

WOD:
For time:
Run 1 mile
Row 2K
Run 1 mile

Post time to comments.

RESULTS:
Sometimes you have to hate technology. Although it's developed to make our lives easier, we become too dependent on it and we expect it to work immediately. My plan was to run outside for this WOD instead of on a treadmill. I was going to use my Forerunner 305 to measure the distance. Well after waiting 20 minutes after my warmup for it to locate the satellites, I gave up and went inside to do the WOD on the treadmill instead. The drawback was that I held back on the treadmill so I could focus on form--I set the speed slower than my fastest 5K to make sure I was POSEing during the WOD. I could have pushed myself much faster...thanks Garmin. It took close to an hour for the Forerunner to locate all the necessary satellites. It was such a nice day to run outside. Teaches me to trust in Garmin to provide instant service. Oh well.

As for the rowing portion of this WOD. First 500m was okay. Second 500m, my legs were starting to burn. Third 500m, my lungs wanted to burst. Last 500m, I was hanging on for dear life trying to do big, powerful pulls. A little over 8 minutes on the row.

Total time: 24:04

My fastest pace for the first mile was 7:14 while my fastest pace for the second mile was 6:00, but my form was severely breaking down. If I ran outside, I probably could've maintained a 6:30 pace easily. I might have to do this one again soon.
