We don't realize it, but sometimes we learn how to do things incorrectly. It's not because we wanted to learn them incorrectly, it's because we didn't have anyone show us the right way to do it. So we tackled a skill or idea on our own, hoping for the best.
Well, as life would have it someone eventually comes along and points out, "Hey, you know you're not quite doing that right." We shouldn't brush these people off since they probably know what they're talking about. So embrace their knowledge and be thankful that they took the time to help you.
It'll take a lot of time and energy to reteach your body how to do something you thought you've been doing correctly your whole life. Don't get frustrated when you don't get it right away, muscle memory takes time. Be patient. And worst of all, don't give up and go back to the way you used to do things. You'll do more damage than if you pressed on. You'll be surprised at how much easier things are when you relearn the correct way to do things. It'll feel effortless. That's what we want life to be, right? Effortless.
